A 3D DEM simulation to study the influence of material and process parameters on spreading of metallic powder in additive manufacturing

The aim of this work is to understand the granular behavior metal powder during spreading phase LBM process in order study effect properties and parameters on quality layer deposited before laser fusion. This a numerical performed with simulations based discrete element method where each grain simulated. model takes into account different interactions such as repulsion, dissipation, friction adhesion that occur when there contact between two bodies. grains are assumed be perfectly spherical. surface roughness plate spreader taken it has significant impact bed spreading. material studied. influence speed also results show values give same final while plays role.
